🏥 National Health Insurance (NHI) and Medical Insurance for International Students

Overview

According to the National Health Insurance Act, foreigners staying in Taiwan for more than 6 months are required to enroll in the National Health Insurance (NHI) program.

Coverage for New Students

• New international students arriving in Taiwan for the first time cannot enroll in NHI until the 7th month after arrival.

• During the first 6 months, students have the following options:

  1. Cathay Life Medical Insurance: One-time payment of NTD 3,000 for 6 months (NTD 500 per month, subject to change).

  2. Existing medical insurance from your home country: Must be verified by a Taiwan Embassy or Mission.
